French Angora - Galler Yarns
GALLER BELANGOR ANGORA YARN: Galler Yarns' precious Belangor is sourced from French Angora Rabbits raised on small breeding farms in France. The French Angora is prized for its higher ratio of guard hair to wool, which creates a distinctive halo effect and allows for a wider range of colors in the fiber.
Caring for the Rabbits: Belangor Rabbits live their entire lives on the farms and are never sold for meat or any other purpose. The people who care for the rabbits are passionate about their work and prioritize the animals' health and happiness.
Fiber Procurement: Angora rabbits naturally molt every 90 to 100 days, and their fur must be manually removed to prevent Wool Block, a gastric blockage caused by ingesting their hair. To ensure the comfort and health of the Angora rabbits, French breeders use a plant-based depilatory supplement that allows the rabbits to be combed out easily and with no trauma to their well-being. Any hair removal methods that do not use this depilation method, such as cutting or shearing, are considered inhumane by experts as they cause trauma to the rabbits.
Knitique and Galler Yarns: Knitique is proud to carry Galler Yarns Belangor, which is exclusively distributed by Galler. Knitique supports only humane treatment of animals in the production of Galler Belangor yarn and is pleased to offer only humanely produced fiber. Due to the dependence on natural molting and the farm-raised rabbits, there may be occasional fiber shortages. However, this is a positive aspect as the rabbits are not subjected to fashion demands and are allowed to live their lives naturally.
