Hats are such a great way to learn a new skill.  Their small size makes it quick and easy to work through techniques that you can later use on bigger projects.  This hat is the perfect project for learning the art of fair isle.  It takes two colors of worsted weight yarn to create this adorable hearts design.

Materials:
worsted weight yarn - 95 (190) yards main color, 95 yards contrast color
We recommend Malabrigo Rios or Artyarns Silky Twist
US 6 & 8  16" circular needles
Or, US 6 & 8 4" Interchangeable Tips in Metal or Bamboo, and a small Twist or Spin 8" Cable
US 8 Double Pointed Needles

Pre-work:
With smaller needles, cast on and work ribbing.  Switch to larger needles and work up to where pattern says heart design.  This way we can start the fair isle pattern in class.

Note:  We found this pattern runs a little large.  The sizes on the pattern are more true to a small adult and adult medium/large.  For a true toddler size cast on 80 stitches.  After working ribbing work 11 rounds of stockinette.
