The easiest way to learn fair isle is a small project. The Sea Glass Hat fits the bill perfectly. Use mini skeins, leftovers, variegates, speckles, solids, you name it. This hat requires no rules on contrast so it's all about just learning to work with two colors at once. In class we'll teach you our favorite fair isle techniques and how to seamlessly join a new color.
Materials:
20 - 44 grams of fingering weight yarn in as many colors as desired
We suggest using Smooshy Cashmere mini skeins in several colors, or stash busting!
US 3 16" circular needles or dpns
US 5 16" circular needles or dpns
Or, US 3 and 5 4" Interchangeable Tips in Metal or Bamboo, and a small Twist or Spin 8" Cable
Pattern available for free from Ravelry here.
Pre-work:
Swatch and get gauge in stockinette stitch in the round. Size up one needle size from the size you achieve gauge on for the actual hat.
